TRANSFORMATIONS
Our Essen architecture festival continues to grow – and in 2024 we once again expanded and refined our program. Year after year, new doors, new locations, and new perspectives open up to us, always accompanied by a warm smile and open arms. Even before the festival weekend on September 3rd, we launched with a fascinating discussion on the International Building Exhibition (IBA) Emscher Park. Its influence on the development of the Ruhr region was still clearly felt 25 years later and provided an ideal start to the festival.
This year, Open House Essen invited curiosity about everything that has changed – or is still in the midst of transformation. After all, the fourth edition of Open House Essen revolved entirely around the theme:
Transformation in the Ruhr Region:
Buildings.
People.
Dialogue.
The Ruhr region once again demonstrated its remarkable ability to reinvent itself while preserving its unique character. With captivating insights into the current state of the Ruhr metropolitan area, our visitors were able to experience how past, present, and future are uniquely interconnected here.
Together, we rediscovered the old, engaged in dialogue with the people on site, traced the footsteps of our shared history – and looked boldly toward the future.
